Sanskrit for ISKCON

An Initiative for Sanskrit Literacy

Yes, Sanskrit is spoken not only in Krsna-loka but also in higher planets of the demigods. It is called the language of God and the demigods. It was spoken also on this planet. When people where all godly they used to speak in Sanskrit. Sanskrit is the origin of all languages of the civilized people. It is most perfect, not only descriptive; the word Sanskrit means the most perfect. No other language of the world can compared with it. No other language of the world is so perfect as Sanskrit.   Srila Prabhupada Letter, February, 1, 1968

Sanskrit is the backbone of our Sanātan Dharma, all our Vedas, Smritis and Puranas are written in Sanskrit. All of our Acāryas wrote their respective Vedanta bhasyas/ commentaries in Sanskrit, all the Stava-stotras are written in Sanskrit. Hence anyone who wants to understand and imbibe the Sanātan dharma or the Vedic culture in it’s true sense must study Sanskrit. It has the largest vocabulary of the world which no other language stands to it’s comparison. Therefore how the terminologies or theologies can be interpreted into any other languages when the exact words don’t even exist in those languages. For example Karma,  prāravdha, sādhanā, marmajnya and so on. There is no exact translation for these words. Also Sanskrit has the widest syntax and grammar. All other grammars are it’s shadow only. In this site we also have provided a list of words in English and Russian generated from Sanskrit. It is our humble endeavor to enhance Sanskrit literacy with correct pronunciation through simple methods for the benefaction of the devotees.
